Okay, so a little over three weeks ago, I created two calendars for September. I created a calendar that has my goal of drinking only two cans of soda a week. The other calendar has my goal of working out 3-4x a week.
About four days after I hung those goal calendars, Mel Robbins uploaded a Youtube video that was titled “How to get ahead of 99% off People (In 4 months)”. The thumbnail also had text that said “It Only Takes 4 Months To Change Your Life”. Anyway, the episode talked a lot about how September is the best time to work on your goals. Mel Robbins talked about changing your life in four months by sticking to your goals and doing something that bettered your life. She also talked about how when we are younger and in school, September is a productive month and how that might be a reason why we as adults feel so productive in September despite not being in school. She told her audience to go out and buy a notebook like you would do in school and write down Fall 2024. She didn’t go into too much detail about how to use the notebook, but I came up with something.
I actually ended up buying 4 notebooks and decided I wanted to pursue my goals as if I were in school because when I was in the college I was great at achieving, but I do feel like it’s hard for me to stick to my own personal goals. For example, I want to get back to writing my book, but I’m having a hard time actually writing. However, I know if this were an assignment in college it would have been done by now. With that being said, I asked Chat GPT how I could make my goals more like school. It ended up saying to give yourself homework, which is actually what Mel Robbins said. It also mentioned creating a grading rubric along with other things. I’m guessing it mentioned creating a deadline. I can’t remember, but I am pretty positive.
My notebooks are all labeled. I have a Linguistics notebook, a Spanish notebook, a Creative notebook, and a notebook labeled Fall 2024. I then wrote in the Fall 2024 notebook and put down “classes” (AKA my goals).
I want to share my Fall goals with you in hopes that it will keep me more accountable, but also maybe you want to take a similar approach of accomplishing your goals by making them into classes with homework assignments and grades.
Here are my “classes”/goals for the next four months:
After I created the class schedule above, I then created a course schedule/course syllabus for each goal/class. I started with my health class and ended with my digital media class. I planned out what I wanted each month to look like by writing my sub-goals/”assignments” for each week.
I am going to create individual blog entries for each goal, so that I can go over them in detail. I want to give more background information on each goal. In addition, I plan on creating a more detailed syllabus for each class. I think it would be helpful to add in specific due dates for the assignments/sub-goals, as well as for quizzes and the “final exam”. I also want to create a grading rubric, as well as a late-work policy.
If you would like to create a class schedule or a course schedule as a way to help you to stay accountable, I will leave a template link of my Canva outline for each one. It’s free to use. Although I think you might need a Canva account to access it, but I’m not entirely sure!
I love everything about this! The concept of treating one’s goals as “classes”, the color design of the syllabi, and of course the admirable goals themselves. I wish you the BEST of luck with all your goals love, and I know you can do anything you set out to! I love you!
Thank you so much!<3 I love you too!
